One More Reason the Draft Sucks

Good article, Pat, but I can't believe you forgot one other insufferable point:

1a. Spoilers!
One of the worst things about the entire draft, in my opinion, is the removal of suspense. We learned that the Dolphins were taking OT Jake Long three days before the draft itself. Why? What's the fun in that? And now, about three hours before the draft itself starts, ESPN is reporting that the Rams are gonna take DE Chris Long. What the hell is the point of watching the live draft if everything is going to be spoiled beforehand? Are they gonna tell us at 2:15 EST that the Falcons and Ravens have agreed to a trade? Spoiling the top picks is like someone on the red carpet reporting an hour before the Emmys who won Best Actor. I hate it, it stinks, the NFL Draft stinks.

What made it even worse was that all of the players invited to the draft went 1-6. There was no Brady Quinn, left all alone in the Green Room crying as team after team passed on him...

Chad Henne and Brian Brohm were almost as good though. So were the wide receivers.

Also the worst spoilers are in the NBA Draft. I have a distinct memory of one NBA draft where the panel was completely oblivious to who was going to be picked, and they cut away to David Stern to announce the pick, and literally a split second before Stern announced the pick, Stephen A. Smith yells out "Rodney Carney!" (or whoever it was). Good thing the camera was off him, or America would've been treated to the world's first cheez doodle spit take.
